EQUAL PERFORMANCE WITH OR WITHOUT PRESCRIPTION, THANKS TO SERENGETI VARIO DRIVE® THIN DESIGN TECHNOLOGY
Known for its high-end sunglasses that are considered by many to have the highest performing lenses in the world and the most adapted lenses for driving (with its unique lens Drivers® optimizing contrasts and emphasizing green, yellow and red – the ‘driving’ colors), Serengeti distances its competitors when it comes to prescription lenses. Committed to always offering its customers the highest optical clarity and comfort, especially appreciated by drivers, the brand ensures the same level of performance for prescription or non-prescription lenses thanks to its unique Vario Drive Thin Design technology. With this technology, Serengeti is the only brand able to provide this level of performance in prescription lenses for 99% of prescription wearers.
The benefits of Vario Drive Technology make sense when understanding why Serengeti lenses are so special.
The brand offers two types of lenses: mineral lenses and PhD™ 2.0 NXT® Sun lenses with complementary advantages: an unbeatable visual acuity for the mineral lens, or the perfect balance of optical and physical performance of NXT® Sun lens built with Trivex material for the PhD™ 2.0 lenses. Both lenses feature a unique combination of three advanced technologies:
- Photochromic technology that allows the lens to darken or lighten depending on the UV light intensity,
- Polarizing technology which suppresses glare and eye fatigue by letting parallel light rays enter while reflecting distracting perpendicular rays,
- and Spectral Control® that filters up to 95% of shortwave blue light and sharpens color contrasts, much like an audio equalizer filters sounds frequency.
Thanks to this combination of technologies, the lenses adapt to light while enhancing contrasts and colors, providing the best perception of the environment without any glare or eye fatigue.
Unlike competitors that are not able to provide similar levels of technologies (or sometimes no technology at all) in prescription lenses, Vario Drive Thin Design allows Serengeti prescription lenses to offer equal performance thanks to the most cutting-edge advancements available in the optical industry. Software using complex calculations creates customized lenses and the ultimate in comfort and lightweight products. Every prescription is reassessed to compensate for optical distortions related to the frame wrap angle. When the prescription reaches the limits of the conventional digital surfacing method, Serengeti’s patented algorithm calculates the best lens geometry regarding the Optical Area and the Transition Zone and reduces the Edge Thickness. Every product is customized to the prescription, frame and wearer’s facial metrics, and is precisely surfaced using the latest digital lens surfacing technology.
The result is the thinnest and most comfortable lens possible with the same technology and the same performance, with or without prescription. Everyone’s eyes can now appreciate the subtleties of beautiful landscapes!
For unbeatable comfort, Serengeti prescription lenses also feature an anti-reflective coating on the backside of the lens that cancels the scattering light causing reflective glare.
